Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet.
O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and greet him
Greetings of peace upon a grave that is visited from far greetings of peace upon al-Rawdah and in it is Muhammad
Greetings of peace upon the one who visited his Lord in the night, so He gave him what is desired in every aspiration
Greetings of peace upon the one who said to the lizard, “Who am I?” So he replied, “The Messenger of God, you are Muhammad”
During our journey to learn about our Master Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him,
through the book Dalail al-Khairat, we got to know many of those connected to him
through sending prayers upon him, peace and blessings be upon
O Allah, send Your blessings, peace, and grace upon our Master Muhammad,
the Opener of what was closed, the Seal of what came before, the Supporter of Truth with Truth,
and the Guide to Your Straight Path
And upon his family and companions, in accordance with his great worth and immense status
But the strangest person we met was Sheikh Mahmoud.
From China.
Whom we met without an appointment or prior arrangement.
We were waiting for one of our companions in the city of Marrakech.
Near the mausoleum of Sidi Ibn Yusuf Ibn Ali Al-Sanhaji.
Suddenly, a group of people arrived who seemed to be tourists.
They were waiting for the door of the mausoleum to open so they could visit.
They left their belongings and spread out around the place.
Leaving behind this Sheikh
who laid out a prayer mat and sat on it.
Then he took out a book.
At first,
we thought it was a Quran
But its Arabic language was not clear
However, when we listened carefully to what he was saying, we were astonished
He was reading from Dalail al-Khairat
Glory be to Allah, who brought us together with him to show us that sending prayers upon our beloved Master
peace and blessings be upon him and his family,
exists everywhere.
As does this blessed book, which guides us to all that is good.
O Allah, send blessings upon the Chosen One.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master , Muhammad.
O Allah, send blessings upon him, his family, and his companions, and grant them peace abundantly
Dalail al-Khairat tells people: If you seek abundant and overflowing goodness,
Then hold on to this great compilation, in which I have summarized
all the books on sending prayers upon the trustworthy Prophet, peace and the best blessings be upon him.
Imam Al-Jazuli, may Allah have mercy on him, through the depth of his insight and the strength of divine lights
realized that through sending prayers upon the Messenger, peace be upon him,
all goodness is opened for you and guides you… Dalail means guidance, Dalail al-Khairat means
everything that leads to both inner and outer blessings
And everything that radiates light into the heart of the believing man and woman, the Muslim man and woman
And everything that erases all distractions and darkness.
It is the light of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
This work could only have come from the lantern of love for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
And if we were to determine the period in which it was written, we would say
it was during the time that Sidi Muhammad Ibn Sulayman Al-Jazuli spent in the city of Fez while seeking knowledge
He lived as an ascetic, devoted in worship to Allah.
He immersed himself in the ocean of sending prayers upon the Beloved, peace and blessings be upon him.
With sincerity,
and with realization
Thus, this divine generosity was bestowed upon him, Allah, the Almighty, honored him with these supplications, the supplications of sending prayers upon the Beloved, peace and blessings be upon him.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, his family, his companions, and his wives.
Episode 28
Dalāʾil al-Khayrāt
Throughout the previous episodes, we have tried to use the supplications found in Dalail al-Khairat.
Perhaps this has encouraged some to search for the book and attempt to read it.
And for this reason, in this episode
We will present the Dalail al-Khairat itself, its structure, divisions, and how to read it
Because its author mastered
the art of sending prayers upon our Master, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
He established an important principle in his mind, that supplication combined with prayers upon the Prophet is always accepted and never rejected.
Therefore,
he included supplications along with the prayers upon our Master, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
Thus, the lovers and those who send prayers upon the Prophet found what they sought in these supplications
For they encompassed remembrance, prayers upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him
and supplication
In other words, they were all-encompassing, which is why they were ever-present in their gatherings
The book is not just a book of remembrance it is a book of remembrance, but it is also a book of
thought, a book of knowledge.
We are speaking about the Muhammadan reality
And about the Muhammadan light
Its manifestation and appearance
This Muhammadan reality is embodied in the book Dalail al-Khairat wa Shawariq al-Anwar
Can we read it without contemplating the concept of light?
Ah, we can read the book and extract from it this theme
the theme of light.
He sought to compile, write, and gather
a collection of hadiths that clarify its legitimacy
the legitimacy of sending prayers upon the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
And with that, he began his book
Thus, his book is a book of compilation
A book of divine accord
A book that carries the breath of the Shaykh
his deep love for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him
And after this, the purpose of this book
is the mention of sending prayers upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him,
and its virtues
We present it without chains of narration to make it easier for the reader to memorize.
And this is among the most essential matters for those who seek it.
And I have named it Dalail al-Khairat and Shawariq al-Anwar on the remembrance of sending prayers upon the Chosen Prophet.
One who is unfamiliar with Dalail al-Khairat
and other books of supplications and prayers upon our Master Muhammad,
peace and blessings be upon him
may wonder about the purpose behind dividing it into sections called Ahzab (parts).
However, these divisions serve educational, organizational, and spiritual purposes
Certainly, there are secrets
secrets linked to divine wisdom in selection
For example, the first section begins on Monday
a reference to the day the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was born
It carries an air of optimism and joy in that love.
Thus, the first day the first section was set on this day.
Monday
And because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him
used to fast on Mondays
he was asked, "O Messenger of Allah,
we see that you always fast on Mondays
He replied, "That is the day I was born."
We have heard that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him
rejoiced in his birth on this day
And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad and upon the family of our Master Muhammad,
as You have commanded that blessings be sent upon him
And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad and upon the family of our Master Muhammad
whose light is from the Light of Lights
and by the radiance of whose secret, mysteries shine forth
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad and upon the family of our Master Muhammad
and upon all the righteous members of his noble household
Each section or each day is designated with a specific type of invocation
These matters are not random; certainly, the Sheikh
had a deep wisdom behind them, requiring further reflection
Thus, if we read the invocations of Monday
and their connection to Monday
or those of Tuesday, Wednesday, and how the formulations vary with the days.
Some of the formulations he included were transmitted from others
while others were divinely inspired to him in the moment.
When scholars observed that people had no structured system for invocations
they sought to establish something known as "Ahzab" (sections).
Just as in the Quran, every quarter of a Juz’ is called a "Hizb,"
and every eighth is called a Juz’, many scholars adopted a similar structure.
Among them was Imam Al-Jazuli, who compiled in Dalā’il al-Khayrāt various prayers
that had been scattered across centuries
He gathered these prayers into a single book so that people could have them in one place,
dividing them into sections suited to specific days.
The purpose was to make it easier for people, creating a mental rhythm
A structured system that the mind becomes familiar with, helping it to return to and not forget
Allah, the Almighty, initiated this kind of division
in His Noble Book, arranging it into 114 Surahs
Scholars built upon this arrangement and extended it across all fields of knowledge
You will find that every discipline follows a structured system.
You will find that every discipline follows a structured system
Similarly, this book is divided into quarters, eighths, and sections, allowing each person to read according to their ability
One may read it entirely in a day, or divide it over three days one-third each day.
Those who prefer four days may read a quarter each day
And for those who take seven days, they may read one section per day. The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if small.
In Sudan, we have among our scholars
That is, they divide it differently from these sections
Here, it is divided according to the days of the week
In Sudan, we divided it into 24 tablets, with each person assigned a tablet
Everyone listens while one person recites their tablet, and this continues until completion.
As for Morocco, they recite it collectively.
Regarding Dala’il al-Khayrat, some scholars
prescribed it as a daily litany throughout the entire week.
That is, a recitation for morning and evening
Others designated specific days, such as Monday and Thursday evenings.
They hold this gathering from after the Isha prayer until Fajr prayer
Thus, it spread across the land, in the south, the north, and the center as well
O Allah, send blessings upon the Bearer of the Banner of Praise
O Allah, send blessings upon the one who rolled up his sleeves in earnest effort.
O Allah, send blessings upon the one who exerted his utmost in seeking Your pleasure
O Allah, send blessings upon the Seal of the Prophets
People differ in their connection to Dala’il al-Khayrat
When we look at Dala’il al-Khayrat, we find it divided into eight sections
Yet, it is recited over seven days.
This brings forth two meanings in the heart
The first meaning is that when you complete it, you must begin again
There is a method of completing the recitation of the Quran known as (the state of departing and arriving).
Imam Al-Shatibi says:
There is no better way to complete the Quran than for a person to finish and immediately begin again
To finish and restart, being in a constant state of departure and arrival, like a traveler on a journey.
When traveling, you stop to rest
but not to end the journey rather, you rise and continue again
Likewise, the connection to Dala’il al-Khayrat
is linked to the connection with the Quran, as both teach you to be in a constant state of departing and arriving.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, equal to the number of times he has been blessed
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, multiplied beyond the number of times he has been blessed
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad as he is worthy of them.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad as You love and are pleased with for him
The boundless ocean of sending blessings upon the Prophet
Even after daily litanies, one needs permission, spiritual vigilance, and a guiding teacher
However, sending blessings upon the Prophet has open permission, granted universally by Allah, the Exalted
"Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet."
Thus, there is great ease in it, yet
it is best that this ease remains disciplined
The priority is to follow this book as the author has arranged it.
And as you have received it with authorization from your teacher
Then, if I have greater spiritual ambition, I may recite two sections daily
There is no restriction.
You may recite two sections, three, or even complete it daily.
The division here is mainly
to help a person commit to a regular practice
What is the legitimacy of this practice?
Its legitimacy lies in the fact that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him
saw ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘As, as mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari
reciting the entire Qur’an in one night
At that time, the Qur’anic revelation was not yet complete
So, he would complete the portion that had been revealed.
And the Prophet forbade him from doing so
And he told him to divide it
Reed it in a month. He replied, “I can do more than that.” So, he told him, “Recite it in a week.”
The essence and meaning of this hadith
is that the Prophet divided
remembrance, supplication and worship
O Allah, send Your blessings, peace, and grace upon the one named our Master Muhammad
O Allah, send Your blessings, peace, and grace upon the one named our Master Ahmad
Our Master Mahmoud, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Our Master Mustafa, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
Imam al-Jazuli began, for example, with the names
He compiled the names of the Messenger of Allah until he reached one hundred and one names.
Some of these are individual names, while others are compound names with an addition.
For example, "The Prophet of Mercy" is a construct of a noun and its qualifier.
Why did he begin with the names, even though they are not part of invoking blessings upon him
This indicates that all the names and their meanings are reflected throughout the rest of the book
So, whoever recites from the supplications of Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday
will find a specific meaning attributed to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
And for each meaning, there is always a corresponding name among his names.
Thus, enumerating his names is
an enumeration of his meanings, virtues, and spiritual outpourings, peace and blessings be upon him.
As Al-Mutanabbi said: "Names that did not add to his knowledge, but rather, a delight we recall."
O Allah, elevate his rank above the ranks of all people.
And honor his dwelling with You and his place of rest.
Perfect his light for him, and reward him for Your sending him forth with an accepted testimony and a praiseworthy statement.
O Essence of the Covenant you are the Seal and a Great Proof
This attention to writing, dividing, and reciting the book Dala’il al-Khayrat
reflects its widespread acceptance among various Muslim communities
throughout the past centuries.
Our connection to the book Dala’il al-Khayrat
comes through our chain of transmission from our teacher and spiritual guide, our master Muhammad Ibn al-Kabir, may Allah have mercy on him.
He personally gave me a copy, which I used to follow.
I would always keep track of a copy of Dala’il al-Khayrat and recite its sections daily.
But this time
I did not bring Dala’il al-Khayrat with me, and perhaps this gathering serves as a substitute for it.
I forgot it; I did not take it with me. I used to carry it during travel.
It never left my side because it contains sections assigned to specific days, which I had to follow daily.
Dala’il al-Khayrat
The number of manuscripts dedicated to it worldwide
exceeds the number of copies of the Qur’an.
This reflects the unanimous acceptance of it by the Muslim Ummah (nation)
Yet, when certain people emerge and say, "This is polytheism." or "This is such and such,"
it is nothing but foolish, meaningless talk that should be ignored
This is the pinnacle of monotheism, this is the pinnacle of piety,
and this is the pinnacle of knowledge.
When we speak about the widespread influence and popularity of Dala’il al-Khayrat
We know that, first of all,
we know that, first of all, the Sheikh, may Allah be pleased with him, had many followers.
That is, he had more than 12,000 disciples.
Each of these 12,000, every disciple, every seeker, every student,
every friend of his carried Dala’il al-Khayrat and spread it.
So, we are speaking of a vast and abundant audience. That is the first aspect.
The second aspect is that it has no complexities.
Other prayers, we notice, contain a certain depth of intricate truths.
Thus, the Ummah (nation) embraced it with acceptance because it is simple in meaning,
clear in structure, and free from complication.
As for the widespread reach of Dala’il al-Khayrat, there is no greater proof than
From its spread beyond the land where its author, our master Imam al-Jazuli, lived beyond Morocco
It spread so widely that it was recited even in Mecca.
There was even a group known as al-Dalīliyya.
They would recite Dala’il al-Khayrat continuously, to the extent that they were buried near the Sacred Mosque
And when the Sacred Mosque was expanded,
their bodies were found intact by the blessing of sending prayers upon our master, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
and by the blessing of the widespread reach of this book.
O Allah, I intend by sending prayers upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to fulfill Your command,
and to affirm the truth of Your Prophet, our Master Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him,
out of love for him, longing for him, and in veneration of his esteemed rank.
And because he is worthy of that, accept it from me by Your grace and generosity.
Muslims have formed a deep connection with Dala’il al-Khayrat because of the prayers it contains upon our beloved master,
peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and the blessings these prayers bring.
It is known for the blessing and benefit in the life of those who are committed to its recitation.
This has been confirmed by numerous testimonies and traditions,
which have made it an essential part of Muslim cultural heritage.
In Morocco, in the past, when a person reached a certain age or when
they reached the stage of circumcision, they would be given a belt to wear.
In a brass case, specifically Sardi brass, Dala’il al-Khayrat was kept for the child.
These garments are still part of Moroccan traditions.
This is known as the Qirba of Dala’il al-Khayrat.
Warriors would carry it when riding into battle.
They had their rifles and a belt holding gunpowder,
and Dala’il al-Khayrat was hung here, taken with them everywhere.
Our master, Imam Ali Nur al-Din al-Shuni, the compiler of Majalis (gatherings) al-Salat upon our master the Prophet, peace be upon him,
kept this book present in his gatherings, as he spent nearly twenty years at Al-Azhar.
He would sit in prayer upon the Prophet, peace be upon him, and recite this blessed book.
He would sit from Thursday night after Isha until Asr or close to Maghrib on Friday.
He would not sleep, nor rise except for prayer.
The gathering was one of prayer upon our Master, the Prophet, peace be upon him, and when this great Imam passed away,
his student, our Master Imam Al-Sha'rani, saw him in a dream.
He saw that his shroud had decayed.
So they opened his grave because they were about to bury Imam Al-Sha'rani’s son there.
He said, “I found his body as it was, even the marks from shaving his head remained, for he had shaved it before passing away.”
He said, “I found it, and the blood from shaving was still fresh, as if he had died just yesterday, though a whole year had passed.”
This was a year after the passing of our Master, Imam Ali Nur al-Din al-Shuni.
This is one example of the scholars who devoted themselves to this book.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad and upon the family of our Master Muhammad,
as many times as those who have sent blessings upon him.
And send blessings upon our Master Muhammad and upon the family of our Master Muhammad,
as many times as those who have not sent blessings upon him.
At the end of Ramadan, I said to my brothers, "I wish to record the book Dala’il al-Khayrat."
But I did not want to record it in a simple manner; I wanted it to be done with precision and excellence.
This thought remained in my heart ,glory be to Allah then, two days later,
I was in the car with a brother who had been present when I spoke about it.
The phone rang, so I put it on speaker. One of the brothers greeted me, "How are you?" I replied, "Praise be to Allah" Then he asked
"Would you be willing to record Dala’il al-Khayrat with us?"
I was astonished.
I said to him, "Yes, of course."
He told me, "If Allah wills, we will coordinate after Eid." I had no idea about the recording how or where it would take place.
After Eid, the brother contacted me and came to the mosque where I was.
He brought cameras and a production team, and we began the recording.
And you, of course, have experience in filming.
It requires time, organization, redoing, directing, editing, and so on.
However, the time it took to record Dala’il al-Khayrat was only the time needed to read it.
It was just a matter of a few hours we did not redo a single sentence.
This was purely from Allah, a divine blessing, and I realized that
it was under the care of the Messenger of Allah PBUH, and by the will of Allah, it was granted acceptance.
O Allah, send Your peace and blessings upon our master Muhammad, upon his family the ocean of Your lights and the treasure of Your secrets.
The tongue of Your proof and the beloved of Your kingdom.
The presence of the Prophet PBUH is generous
By the will of Allah, it is a form of divine generosity.
The honor I witnessed through this book was truly astonishing, both in religion and in worldly matters
I went for Umrah, and by the decree of Allah, I was invited...
To visit the Rawdah Ash-Sharifah in a special visit.
Without any prior arrangement.
The first thing that came to my heart regarding this invitation was that it was due to the blessings of Dala’il al-Khayrat.
I was teaching a class.
And I was speaking about sending prayers upon the Prophet PBUH.
So I said, “Whoever has an experience with sending prayers upon the Prophet PBUH, let them share it with us.”
One of the sisters said, “I do.”
She spoke about her experience with Dala’il al-Khayrat.
She explained how her life transformed from misery to happiness.
From loss to stability and guidance.
And how her situation at work changed.
In both worldly matters and matters of the hereafter,
in her steadfastness in prayer, in her regular recitations and remembrances she spoke of something truly astonishing.
So I asked her, “Where did you learn about this?” She said, “From you.”
“How so?” She replied, “I attended your lessons on sending prayers upon the Prophet PBUH”
“I read Dala’il al-Khayrat. I heard you encouraging people to engage with Dala’il al-Khayrat, so I started listening to recordings.”
“And this path was opened for me. It’s truly amazing, and I had no prior knowledge of it, Glory be to Allah”
“All of this is from the blessings of Dala’il al-Khayrat, If Allah wills.”
“If you seek divine openings through Dala’il al-Khayrat”
“If you want to learn from Dala’il al-Khayrat, if you want to reach Allah through Dala’il al-Khayrat”
In the spiritual retreat in Portugal
It was just like I had said before how could I show our Master Muhammad PBUH, that I love him
So when you want to show the Beloved that you love him, you must do things that are truly meaningful. It’s something truly beautiful
So I decided to write it by hand.
I also believe that when you write something by hand, with both your eyes and your heart engaged
It becomes more present within you, and thus, it is more likely to be accepted by Him
That was my personal decision to write it myself.
It didn’t take more than a week. I wrote the entire thing, reading it each day as I transcribed it.
Our Master Muhammad PBUH, no matter how much you may think or reason that this act
is insignificant no, no, not at all!
A person is with whom they love. If you love the Messenger of Allah, you must realize
You must realize that, by Allah’s permission, if the intention is pure and faith is strong, you will reach your goal.
Increase in seeking forgiveness and in sending prayers upon the Messenger of Allah PBUH.
True openings are granted only by Allah, the Most High.
When the intention is sincere, everything falls into place.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad, the Light of all lights,
The Secret of all secrets, and the adornment of the chosen messengers.
O Allah, send blessings upon our Master Muhammad and upon his family
Commitment to the book Dala’il al-Khayrat
makes one among those who frequently send prayers upon our Master Muhammad PBUH
Peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
It also makes one among those who frequently seek forgiveness and remember Allah, the Most High.
And all of this brings us closer to Allah and His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him.
And this closeness is the true happiness in both this world and the Hereafter.
"O Allah, send blessings, peace, and blessings upon our Master Muhammad
and upon his family, and his companions
And this group that recites Dala’il al-Khayrat in Fez every Friday,
or rather, every day of the week,
will be the subject of our next episode, God willing.
O Allah, grant us the intercession of Your Messenger, ,
We invoked Salawat on the Prophet (peace be upon him) more than 95 times in this episode.
